Pproduct Details
In Africa, the seat is considered the most important piece of furniture and usually reflects the social rank of its owner. A particular example of this is the stools, which are made by securely attaching the skins to the sides to form an extremely stable seat. Unlike most African seats which are made from a single carved piece of wood, these stools are made from pieces of wood put together to create a fascinating work of art.
The Chokwe state was founded in the 16th century when nobles from the neighboring Lunda Empire migrated to northern Angola and imposed their rule over the locals. These nobles were known for their artistry and craftsmanship, particularly in the creation of unique pieces of furniture such as this stool.
By combining art and craft, the Chokwe people have created a remarkable work of art that is not only functional but also reflects the beauty and richness of their culture. The stool is therefore not just a piece of seating furniture, but also a symbol of the tradition and heritage of Africa.
