Pproduct Details
A piece of traditional craftsmanship and a true work of art, the Tonga stool is carved from a single piece of wood. For the elders of the nomadic Tongan people in Zimbabwe, these stools were a status symbol of great importance and they still have their place in Tongan culture today.
Each stool is unique and is characterized by individual lines, shapes and patterns. This stool impresses not only with its uniqueness, but also with its lightness and portability. Originally only the head of a household was allowed to sit on a Tongan stool, making the stool a symbol of power and influence. Women were excluded from this privilege. A look at this chair reveals a lot about the owner and his position in the community.
But this stool didn't just serve as a status symbol; it was surprisingly comfortable and was used for resting, working and during traditional meetings.
A Tonga stool is not just a piece of furniture, but a work of art and a window into the history and culture of the Tonga people.
